Ruth Mills has been a Partner in the Firm since 2004 and is the Managing and Finance Partner.
Ruth is the Head of the Wills and Probate department specialising in Wills, Probate, Intestacy, Contentious Probate and the provision of Powers of Attorney.
Having been born in Pembrokeshire, where she started her legal career, Ruth worked for a number of firms in Bournemouth, before joining Mustoe Shorter Solicitors & Advocates in 2003. She is married with a young family.
Lee Christmas is a criminal law specialist with over 20 years of experience. He qualified as a solicitor in 1993. He became a Partner in 2013 and is head of the Criminal Law Department.
He has represented clients facing a wide variety of allegations including rape, robbery and murder.
He is well-regarded by his colleagues and clients. He is known for being approachable and able to explain complex legal issues in simple language. His preparation is extensive and his strategies are second to none. This has helped him to achieve an excellent record in acquittals.
He is a police station and court duty solicitor and has higher rights of audience in the Crown Court.
He has a particular interest in representing clients accused of motoring offences. He has considerable expertise and experience in this area of law. His reputation is such that other lawyers regularly ask him to act for their clients when they face the prospect of being disqualified from driving.
Simon Brimacombe qualified as a Solicitor in 1995 and has been with the firm since 2006. He became a Partner in 2009. He specialises in Childcare Law.
Simon appears frequently in front of all relevant tiers of the family court to include magistrates, district judges and High Court judges

Simon is an accredited member of the Law Society’s Children Panel. This means that Simon is considered to have sufficient expertise to represent children in Court proceedings through the children’s Guardian or to take instructions directly from the child. Simon also represents parents in respect of proceedings concerning Children’s Services, and in private disputes between parents, such as disputes over residence and contact.
Simon also undertakes Deputyship work in respect of applications to the Court of Protection to deal with financial affairs and personal welfare issues, for people who have lost the ability to do so themselves, whether that be through accident, injury or simple old age.
Julie has been with the firm since 1990, ensuring the smooth running of the Accounts Department. She assists the Partners by creating management reports, budgets etc and also runs our Human Resources Department.
Her interests are travelling abroad, spending time with her children and socializing.
Tim Shorter has been a Solicitor for nearly 40 years and a Solicitor Advocate for 20 years. He deals mainly with serious crime, regularly appearing as a defence Advocate cases in the Crown Court including trials for murder, armed robbery, drugs offences, assaults, fraud, and sex crimes. He also appears in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division). He has experience of Courts-Martial and also of the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal, where he has both prosecuted and defended. He thus has a wide experience of defence work in all types of crime
Tim also has wide experience in commercial conveyancing, acting for several local organisations, varying from small property development companies to a regional hotel chain and a national care provider.
Patricia has maintained an ongoing interest in legal issues arising from human rights and animal welfare after qualifying as a solicitor in London in 1994.
Having initially specialised in all aspects of criminal defence work including extradition, she then extended her practice into family and child care law and has experience in working for local authorities as well as private clients.
Patricia particularly enjoys advocacy and is a member of SAHCA (Solicitors and Higher Court Advocates) and the Child Care Panel.

Elaine Walker is a solicitor who specialises in employment law and accident claims.
As an injury lawyer, Elaine specialises in claims arising from accidents at work and industrial diseases, such as asbestosis or hand-arm vibration syndrome.
Elaine can also assist with claims arising from a road traffic accident.
Elaine is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
As an employment lawyer, Elaine provides advice to both employees and employers. She can assist in bringing or defending claims in unfair dismissal and in discrimination, such as discrimination on grounds of sex, race or disability. Elaine is an experienced advocate at Employment Tribunals, with a very high success rate.
Elaine has significant experience in assisting employers and employees in reaching terms of agreement when employment comes to an end, and in advising on settlement agreements.
Elaine also provides advice on Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Paul Legg joined Mustoe Shorter Solicitors & Advocates in 2018 after practicing as a defence advocate in London since 2006. He is an experienced criminal law practitioner and deals with cases from initial arrest and throughout the court process. He has dealt with the full spectrum of criminal offences ranging from minor matters to high profile cases including murder, serious fraud offences, drugs importation and organised football violence. He deals with each case with the same level of enthusiasm, regardless of the nature of the offence.
Paul specialises in representing those accused of sexual offences and is aware that such cases need to be dealt with sensitively but also forcefully. He has developed a reputation as being approachable and easy to understand whilst also preparing cases thoroughly in order to ensure the best possible result for his clients.
Emma graduated from the University of Sussex with a first class honours degree in law, and went on to further her education by completing the legal practice course in 2017, obtaining a distinction.
She joined the firm as a Trainee Solicitor in 2017 and has experience in personal injury, breach of contract, employment, and criminal matters. Emma is a fully accredited police station representative.
Emma was awarded 'Rising Star of The Year' at The Dorset Legal Awards 2018.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys keeping active. She particularly enjoys playing netball competitively for Bournemouth Club. Emma has a keen interest in musical theatre and attends as many shows as time permits.

Kara Reynolds is a conveyancing executive, having worked in that area in the firm for over 35 years. She has dealt with the transfer of property, both sales and purchases, of all sizes and descriptions, both freehold and leasehold.
Her wide knowledge of practice, procedure and indeed of the local area, built up over the years, enables her to carry through transactions speedily and with confidence, making the whole process so much easier for the client.
Melanie joined Mustoe Shorter Solicitor & Advocates in November 2016 having previously spent many years working in the Family Team of solicitors based in Poole, Dorset.
Melanie has over 25 years' experience advising on Family Law problems with a particular interest in cases involving domestic abuse and mental health issues.

Tania is an Accredited Police Station Representative and a Graduate member of Ilex. She is currently undertaking training with a view to become a chartered legal executive.
Tania has substantial experience advising clients at the police station and has advised clients accused of a variety of offences from minor shoplifting to murder. Tania prides herself on her ability to communicate well with clients. She has vast experience in dealing with vulnerable clients in difficult situations.
Dawn Forden is experienced in all matters relating to the taking out of Probate (the legal actions after death where there is a Will), the taking out of Letters of Administration (where there is no Will) and associated matters, such as the collection & distribution of the deceased person's assets in accordance with the Will, or the rules for estates where there is no Will.
She has worked in the Dorset area for over 15 years.
